A friend of mind uses Mozy for file storage for his small business and is very happy with it. He checked out Carbonite but decided to go with Mozy because it is user friendly, "uses less system resources" and it's "set up and forget it". I liked the idea of Dropbox. I like the magic pocket explanation and the idea of getting your photos and/or work on any type of Mac or PC. Actually, all of these products can do that, so I'll probably go with the one that's free. I'm not planning on storing videos at this time so I won't bother with Motionbox. I think 2 GB will be enough for awhile and if I do need to increase it it's only pretty reasonable. Plus, if it's good enough for my friend's business, it should be easy enough for me.
I am going to put all of our school photos that our development office guy has on Mozy too, once I show him how great it is. Another nice feature that I want to check out is if the memory book lady can put her pics on the same site. It would be great if we could all access the same pictures. Last year, I wanted the 8th grade to make a PowerPoint about our school and I had to have our development guy save some on the network drive for me. This way, I think I could just go online and access them.

Linda, I completely agree. My district currently uses a huge amount of network drive space for photo's and for music. Needless to say, this significantly reduces the amount of space available for teachers, so an online site might be exactly what we need. I now only wish we had the money to purchase such a service. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never used anything like this before and with the assignment we had, I've learned a great already. I too am also signing up for a free service, but my wife and I might move to purchasing something like for our photo's, we have a ton from our travels. A few years ago we went to Paris and shot over 1700 photos. :) As you can guess, that trip alone is taking up a lot of disk space. I can see this as being a great option for us and possibly school too.
