File Storage

A friend of mind uses Mozy for file storage for his small business and is very happy with it. He checked out Carbonite but decided to go with Mozy because it is user friendly, "uses less system resources" and it's "set up and forget it". I liked the idea of Dropbox. I like the magic pocket explanation and the idea of getting your photos and/or work on any type of Mac or PC. Actually, all of these products can do that, so I'll probably go with the one that's free. I'm not planning on storing videos at this time so I won't bother with Motionbox. I think 2 GB will be enough for awhile and if I do need to increase it it's only pretty reasonable. Plus, if it's good enough for my friend's business, it should be easy enough for me.
I am going to put all of our school photos that our development office guy has on Mozy too, once I show him how great it is. Another nice feature that I want to check out is if the memory book lady can put her pics on the same site. It would be great if we could all access the same pictures. Last year, I wanted the 8th grade to make a PowerPoint about our school and I had to have our development guy save some on the network drive for me. This way, I think I could just go online and access them.

My First Class CED501

How exciting but how confusing! We learned about Illuminate, Ning, Google Docs and Blogs all in one hour. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to be for what, but I'm excited and will eventually know where I am going and what I am doing.
I'm a Google fan and ready to start using it with the kids next week. I am going to start my eighth graders with Gmail next Monday. Hopefully, after our group collaboration on Google Docs, I will be able to create a project for them for the following week. They certainly love to communicate with each other at that age, so I might as well capitalize on that. I plan on working with one of their teachers to create a project for their class trip.
Our school is in need of a new server, so we are trying to decide how/what we need for the future. My technology committee is in favor of cloud storage and our business office is against cloud storage. This is very interesting to me to see how this Stritch class works.
I love Ning, but not quite ready to implement it into the curriculum. I need to practice, practice, practice. My favorite part so far is the way we work as a group. I enjoy the idea of learning together. I feel pretty comfortable asking for help which is a very, very good thing.
